Blood Tree by FreShPAiNt Blood Tree by FreShPAiNt
Been a bit since I've done an environment, but I was burnt out on characters.

This was inspired by the Cthae in Patrick Rothfus's book A Wise Man's Fear, but not trying to be very accurate. Was mostly like "Hey, evil tree. Now I want to paint a tree."

I now have prints of this here: www.inprnt.com/gallery/achrisa…

A wonderful painting. It took me minutes to find the statues and that's what makes a fine work of art I think; always and everywhere a new detail awaits discovery. Many props!

I'm totally in love and inspired by this digital painting, though I don't do much digital painting. Anyway, is it trickery of the eye, or do I spy a cloaked female figure in the foreground and a faint echo of one in the distance to the right? Intentional or not, I think it that's fabulous in and of itself, and if you haven't already, I could totally see a spin off of this piece with the tons of said figures merged with natural elements....you know, the next time you feel  "burnt out" of characters, and get an environment itch. Could be really wicked hybrid!

Thanks!  Yes there is actually a statue of a woman there hidden in the foreground trees.  I've actually toyed with the idea of merging plants and figures (I did a bit of work like that a few years ago), and i've thought about going back to it, and see where it takes me now. =)

Well, I think you should! Because I totally did not read it so much as a statue, but as part of the tree. So am I completely imagining the second "statue" in the distance? That has happened with one of my murals- someone saw a reclining man in a rock, and they told me that, I couldn't unsee it. It totally looked that way, even though it was not my intention. Though small and less featureless, I see the same cloaked figure in the background trees to the right. Is that the intent?
